winter grey essentials

winter greys: pinboard
items linked here
As winter is beckoning for most of us (unfortunately though not here in Singapore), there is a new season to dress for. I spend a vast majority of my christmases in snow so winter clothing for me essentially consists of anything warm, snuggly, and extremely comfortable. This basically equates to sweatpants, Uggs and wooly beanies. I'm not a huge believer on dressing for style during winter-comfort is my number one priority. I believe that bold colours naturally aren't a good colour to dress for during this season, as they are obnoxious and can come across as too bold for this season. More subdued colour palettes like black and grey are always a softer and more tone-downed option. Above, I have compiled a few essentials that everyone during this winter needs: uggs, sweatpants, a wooly beanie and scarf, and some warm and oversized shirts.
What are your favourite colours to dress with during winter?

In Good Company DFW

Dress: Motel Rocks
Necklace:Anthropologie
Clutch: Cheap Monday
Shoes: Unbranded
~~
A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending In Good Company's first ever fashion show with fellow blogger Mariana in play of Digital Fashion Week, Singapore's first live streaming fashion week. After streaming last year's DFW shows online, it was an amazing experience to finally be able to watch the show live. In Good Company is a homegrown Singaporean brand and although I hate to admit it, I had never heard or come across their brand before which is why Digital Fashion Week is such a great platform discovering and highlighting Singapore's most talented designers.
After the first few models showcased the clothes on the runway, what really struck me was how crisp, clean and fresh the clothes were. Asymmetrical skirts and boxy shirts formed quite a large and masculine silhouette on the models which also suited the very clinical make up garnished on the all the models. As you can see from the images above, the "high waisted skirt" theme was used throughout the collection and remained one of In Good Company's signature motifs. Although quite repititive, it was a clever look to reuse as the high waisted skirts are both versatile and very smart.
Towards the end of the show, the clothes became more girly and feminine yet remained crisp. For some reason, I found that this brand had a strikingly similarity to Thakoon and held similar aesthetics. The colour scheme in this capsule was quite subdued simple which further contributed to the simplicity of this collection.

Although I enjoyed watching the perfectly tailored clothing on the runway, I felt that the music accompanied with it was frankly quite unnecessary and irrelevant. Putting Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" (a very overrated song which I strongly dislike) as the first track probably wasn't the wisest move and it honestly left me with quite a bad impression at the beginning of the show and put me off a little. Apart from that small negative comment, I really liked the clothing in this capsule and definitely look forward to see In Good Company's designs in the future.

Fur and Snow

Top - Hilfiger Denim
Jeans - Bik Bok
Fur  - Berlin
Scarf - Acne
Shoes - Doc Martin Serena

Winter is here! Short, snowy days have finally arrived, and Christmas isn't far. The biggest downside to this frosty time is that daylight is scare, meaning OOTDs are even harder to do than usual!

Nevertheless, I am sitting in a giant bean bag in front of the cosy fire with a cup of hot coco by my side. Theres a gentle blizzard and bitter winds blowing outside, and a blanket of pure white snow laying across the small town in which I reside. If I were to walk outside right now, I would be dazed by a monumental volume of snow crystals and a holiday bliss. Just walking down the street you notice the merry, joyous atmosphere settling into your neighbourhood. The people rushing out to buy Christmas presents for their loved ones, and children playing gleefully in the snow.

However, the weather and the atmosphere aren't the only things I adore about winter. The fashion, obviously being a fashion blogger, is one of the most wonderful things about winter. What other season is it that allows you to wear fur, and big comfy jumpers, and wooly accessories. There is none other than winter! Winter really is the best season of all, what's not to love?

I hope you enjoyed this post, tell me your favourite thing about winter!

3 Things I've Been Loving

1. FOOD// Macaroons

Ah, macaroons. This delightful little desert has taken my heart completely. Every chance I get I find myself reaching towards a box of sweet confectionary heaven. They come every different flavour under the sun, from pistachio to coffee. From the moment you put of these sweets into your mouth, theres an epic explosion of taste and textures. If you have a sweet tooth, I highly recommend giving macaroons a try!

2. BOOK// The Beautiful and Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Fitzgerald is starting to become my favourite author. After being totally enchanted by The Great Gatsby, I felt inclined to read another of his great masterpieces. I won't say anything about the plot but this book is amazing! It isn't as good as Gatsby in my opinion, but it is a marvellous book!

3. PERFUME// Acqua Di Gioia by Giorgio Armani

I received this perfume for my 15th birthday from friends, and I have been obsessed with it since! I hardly wear perfume, usually I tend to lean towards by Victoria Secret Body Splashes, but this has become my everyday staple. The smell is so unique compared to my other perfumes. I often choose floral and girly perfumes so it came almost as a shock that I liked this one! I definitely think that everyone should go smell this!

What do think of these 3 things, tell me your 3 things down below!

Fur

fur

Fur has pounced onto the runway like a panther in disguise. Once a material scarcely used by, is now a frequent visitor at all the F/W runway shows, as well as in our wardrobes. Fur has been used for centuries to keep warm, but has also been proven to ooze a little luxury into anyones life. Luckily, and since the invention of faux fur, whether you are an animal lover or a PETA-propeller, fur can be an autumn/winter staple.

Fur can be found in so many different shapes and sizes, and colours. It can be found on the trim of the hood on a winter coat, or formed as a long, lavish scarf. Designers such as Marc Jacobs, Bryan Boy for Adrienne Landau, The Row, and Stella McCartney have all incorporated furry pieces into their RTW collections for this season. My personal favourites include the Knit-Mink Scarf by Bryan Boy for Adrienne Landau and a Raccoon Bed Jacket by Marc Jacobs.

Above are my favourite flocculent items for F/W. A hat, jacket, vest and scarf are quintessential furry pieces so I provided a faux fur option and a real fur option so that everyone can feel the flamboyant luxury and opulence that a fur piece can award a person with.

What are your thoughts on real vs faux fur?

3 things I've loved

1. EVENT//Bali Green School:
Thanks to my school's very wide and extensive outdoor education curriculum, I am privileged enough to be able to travel to places all over Asia. Out of the 20+ choices and trips we could pick from this year, I decided pick the trip to Bali's Green School, which boasts an impressive title as being the most eco-friendly and greenest school in the world. Apart from the fact that I love Bali (who doesn't?!), I thought this trip would be less arduous than the other trips. It was more or less two weeks ago when I was in Bali's Green school. Having lived in a city my whole life, it took me quite some time to get familiar with the rural surroundings, especially using the compost toilets.Spending time with nature and its beauty was a very refreshing change from my daily distractions, and I surprisingly enjoyed the trip a lot more than I imagined. This school is far from most people's idea of Bali (think beaches and surfing), and is definitely a haven of tranquil paradise. From the 7AM yoga classes to hiking an active volcano, this school trip has proved to me that Bali has for more beyond to its exterior self of stereotypical beaches and shopping areas. Find more about the school here!

2. TV SHOW//The Carrie Diaries:
Set in year of 1985, where 'Ronald Reagen and shoulder pads were all the rage', The Carrie Diaries chronicles Carrie's life as a 17 year old teen juggling life between high school and New York. Aside from Gossip Girl, this is one of the few tv shows that manages to draw me into the characters lives. To be able to live Carrie's dramatic yet fun lifestyle would be a girl's dream come true. After months of waiting, the series has just come back for another season and I am officially hooked! For lovers of Gossip Girl, Jane By Design and Sex and The City, this is the show for you.

3. ACCESSORY//White watches:
Watch from Nikon//My own white watch from Anthropologie//Marc Jacobs Watch
Over the summer, I managed to develop quite a fetish for white watches. Nowadays, watches have often been discarded and replaced by phones. Watches are a timeless piece of jewellery, they are multifunctional in a way that they are both beautiful and useful. I had been coveting a watch like the one on the top right for quite a while already, but managed to score this beautiful watch in the middle instead. Thanks to incredible summer sales in England, I managed to buy this watch for just $15, which was way way cheaper than the Marc Jacobs one. I am in love with the gold and white colours, and it has definitely been my best summer buy.

New In: Stylebop

Hello, hope you're all well! I recently ordered a Juicy Couture hoodie from stylebop.com, and I absolutely love it! Its super soft, comfy and I adore the colour. When I was ordering it I was terrified about the shipping, tax fees, and all that stuff because when reading reviews of stylebop, people said shipping took weeks and they got defected items! Thankfully my item ended being fine, exactly what I ordered. It arrived in a pretty box with a bow tied around it and the item was beautifully packed in it.
I am definitely one of those people who can't stand ordering things online, because I get so nervous about it! Although after my experience with stylebop I will definitely order again!

runway inspiration

all photos found from various tumblrs
While spending an excessive amount of my time on tumblr (which is extremely addicting), I've had a fetish for reblogging model-esque photos of models posing backstage or on the runway. As you can probably tell if you're a huge Alexander Wang lover, a majority of these photos are all from his latest SS13 collection which was absolutely spectacular. This is one of the first few collections where I've wanted to buy every look donned on the runway- which sadly won't happen but a girl can dream. I thought I would share some doses of my favourite Wang photos and more. I've also categorised these photos into different colour schemes, naming white, black, peach and grey. Each colour connotes a different vibe to a collection and the pictures above are definitely more pale and subdued, which was an overwhelmingly big colour scheme in this season's collections.

//I have just come back from a school expedition to the world's greenest school in Bali which probably explains my brief hiatus in posting!

Tickled Pink

Untitled #118

This years fall and winter collections have been drenched with my favourite colour, pink. From dusty roses to blushed hues, on everything from wooly coats to fur stoles to slip dresses, pink has taken over the runways. Spotted at Topshop Unique, Carven, Moschino and many more shows, designers have taken this colour usually reserved to spring and summer and translated it swiftly into the fall/winter wardrobes that we will soon exhibit. Because the past seasons were ruled by the monochrome look, colours are all the rage this fall/winter. Paired with greys and blacks, a pop of pink can add a feminine twist to what would be a bland winter outfit. Pastel pink outerwear is making a big statement. Its the easiest way to wear the trend, just throw it over any outfit and you're good to go!

2. Cashmere Burberry Scarf - As winter is quietly approaching us, scarves are becoming an everyday staple for me. Because of their bold print and neutral colors, these scarves are to die for!

Fall OOTD

Scarf - Acne
Coat - Topshop
Shirt - Ralph Lauren
Jeans - Dr. Denim
Lip color - YSL Glossy Lip Stain 18 Rose Pastelle
Today I wore this simple but very fall appropriate outfit. I took my favorite trends from the runway and incorporated and accommodated them to my own personal style. The pink trend for fall (which I absolutely adore!) was huge on the runway, as oppose to the monochrome looks seen during S/S13. By wearing the pink shirt, I brought this trend into my outfit while still looking sophisticated and feminine. As fall weather keeps creeping up and dropping temperatures down, a good warm scarf is vital. I prefer browns, golds and bronzy colors during the autumnal season to accentuate the beauty of the colors in fall. To top off this look, I wore a navy swing coat. Autumn is the perfect time to break out your favorite wool coats. This particular coat has a dark, slightly masculine color and a soft feminine silhouette balances that out perfectly.

Daily Makeup!

Hi guys, hope you're all having a great day! Today's post is all about my daily makeup routine. Even though this is called my "daily" makeup routine, in no means do I wear makeup everyday. Sometimes I wear more, and sometimes a little less. My everyday makeup is quite natural and perfect for school or the office. I've been using a lot of these products for quite some time now, but I like to change bronzer/blush and lip colors up everyday depending on my outfit and mood.

Starting with my Laura Mericer tinted moisturizer, I blend this all over my face and down my neck with a Real Techniques stippling brush. This gives me a nice amount of coverage, without looking heavy or cakey. Next, using a large powder brush also from Real Techniques, I powder my t-zone with Rimmel's Stay Matte Powder. This is the best powder I have ever used, it controls oils and keeps the face looking matte all day! After that, I contour my cheeks with the Bahama Mama bronzer by The Balm. The matte ashy brown shade makes it the perfect bronzer for contouring. Once my bronzer is applied, I dust the apples of my cheeks with a Real Techniques blush brush. Then I move onto my eyes. I apply a thin line of eyeliner all across my top lid, keeping it as close to my lash line as possible. For this, I use my Maybeline gel eyeliner. I highly recommend this product if you want something that stays in place all day!  After curling my eyelashes, I apply one coat of the Bare Minerals Flawless Definition mascara and one of Max Factors MasterpieceMax mascara. The Bare Minerals mascara is my Holy Grail mascara! I have used it literally for years, and it never fails to make my lashes look long, separated and beautiful. To finish my look off,  I apply some of my favorite lip balm, and gloss my lips with the Clarins Natural Lip Perfecter.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post, tell me what you think below! +  Make sure you have entered my giveaway!

my favourite fashion reads

my favourite fashion reads

 1. Grace: A memoir by Grace Coddington:
I first got to know about Grace properly after watching The September Issue, a movie documenting the hectic life for VOGUE workers in the September Issue. I had known that she played an important role in this fashion industry, but didn't realise what a huge impact she had up until then. One of my muses that I look up to right now will definitely be Grace. She manages to creates this fantasy world behind her wonderfully magical and breathtaking images, which is a rare gem to now find. I have to admit that I've never been a huge fan of reading memoirs, but this book is definitely an exception. I would definitely recommend this book for people who want to work in the fashion industry, or want an insider into one of fashion's biggest icons.
2. Front Row: Anna Wintour by Jerry Oppenheimer:
Anna Wintour is without a doubt the most influential style icon that has rocketed the fashion world. Earning the distinguished and highly repspectable title as VOGUE's editor in chief, she plays an immensely important role in the industry and literally has control over this 200 billion-dollar industry at the palm of her hand through her decisions. "If fashion was a church, she would be the high pope." But of course, she never started off  with this power. This profile on Anna chronicles her hard struggles and her hungry determination of working her way up towards becoming the editor in chief of VOGUE. Front Row reveals Anna's cold and autocratic demeanour, which has also given her a reputation as "Nuclear Wintour". I highly respect Anna despite her stony reputation, and will always see her as fashion's most important figure.
 3. Rookie/Yearbook One by Tavi Gevinson:
This is not your average, stereotypical teenage girl guidebook, although the name makes your believe it.A fashion/teenage girl bible is more of a better description. From "how to" tips, to glossy fashion spreads and very relatable articles, this book covers almost everything a girl would want to read about. The book was compiled together by a bunch of teenage girls, and is unbiasedly honest.
4. The devil wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger:
Being one of my favourite movies and books, this book is an all-time fashion classic. It is hilarious and witty, and I would definitely recommend this to fashion fanatics.

Wildfox DAISY'S GIRL A/W'13

“I hope she'll be a fool -- that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.”
"In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars.'"
Style, glamour and fresh doses of creativity is are things that Wildfox are definitely associated with. Their clothes and campaigns are unique and inspiring, and it's no wonder Wildfox has gained such an acclaimed and international gathering. Every Wildfox ad campaign crafts a very strong storyline and captures the right mood perfectly. This is one reason, (we could have a whole list that would go on forever) why we love their ads and gorgeous clothes. This season, Wildfox Designer Kimberley Gordon was inspired by the raging 20s old-glamour fashion and felt like it really suited Wildfox's aesthetics after re-reading The Great Gatsby. She says"Parties all the time, driving into town, spending money, falling in love, big mansions and gardens, the ocean, brewing your own alcohol, best friends and broken hearts...it's just so amazingly fun. It was all sparkle, true love, dancing, and champagne."Wildfox definitely has achieved this 1920s Gatsby glamour look perfectly- the girls come across as educated, wild, stylish and playful. The clothes in this collection are more casual-chic than fancy, and are most definitely wearable. Nowadays, so many designers produce so many daring clothes that I wouldn't dare wear at home, let alone out. This collection oozes the luxury, allure, and sparkle of the 20's in the most contemporary way possible. It's like being taken back to a time when endless summer nights were partied away. This campaign translates that era of excitement to the modern day we live in now. We are as enchanted by this campaign as we are with the 20's.

“And I like large parties. They’re so intimate. At small parties there isn’t any privacy.”
“So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”
“There are only the pursued, the pursuing, the busy and the tired.”
Add some sparkle, glitter, and glamour and you've got Wildox's daisy girl!
